Alverton Summer Garden Sessions

What’s On Manager Bethany took some time out and headed over for the first Garden Session at the Alverton.

After months inside we decided it was time to dress up and treat ourselves, and an evening at the Alverton seemed just the thing. Booking via the Eventbrite was really easy, with tickets emailed to us. Once we’d booked we spotted the Alverton’s Summer Deal on Facebook and decided to make a night of it!

The day before our visit a member of the team gave me a call to check our health and run us through the social distancing precautions that were in place. Any worries I had about staying away from home were put at bay by this friendly call and we knew what to expect during our stay.

Two cocktails. One is pink in a flute and one is yellow in a cloudy tumbler.

We arrived at the Garden Session and were shown to our reserved table overlooking the gardens. The ticket entitles you to a free cocktail (I chose the Strawberry & Elderflower Bellini), with subsequent cocktails at 2 for £10. Sitting in the evening sunshine with a drink in hand, listening to musician Ashley Harding play made me feel like I was away on a hot holiday, not just 10 miles up the road in Truro!

The staff during the evening were fantastic, managing to maintain a safe distance whilst being upbeat and chatty. All of the outside tables were at a distance from each other, and there is table service to avoid queuing at the bar.

A green lawn in the sunshine. On the right of the image people sit at tables with white umbrellas.

The garden sessions also have a special menu, and we tried wood fired pizza and the deli board (it was so delicious we ate them before I had time to take a picture). Salads, sliders and sweet treats are also on offer. The warm evening meant we sat outside well into the night before returning to our beautiful suite.

The next morning we were headed downstairs for breakfast (boiled eggs, toast and tea for me). The tables in the dining room were socially distanced, and again all of the waiters were wearing masks.

A spoon cracks the top of a boiled egg. It is on a white plate with lots of toast.

Spending an evening at the Garden Session was a great way to escape from home and help any lockdown stress dissolve away, whilst straying not too far from home!
