1. SIX

Tue 6th – Sun 11th September, 2022
Hall for Cornwall, Truro

SIX, the multi-award-winning show is coming to Hall for Cornwall for one week only. With a spectacularly successful sound-track that has stormed charts across the globe, this sell-out Tudor take-off has ‘an incredibly strong and powerful message.” and is a “boundary-pushing, genre-redefining” production (The Australian).

From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st-century girl power. These Queens may have green sleeves but their lipstick is rebellious red.

2. TEMPEST

Trebah Garden’s, our Winter What’s On Guide Cover Starn and their new show TEMPEST is a bold, contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s classic text, performed across their sub-tropical garden.

Incensed skies cause a catastrophic disaster on the beach of a magical island. Venture through an isle full of noises in this radical adaptation of a 400-year-old story and decide for yourself, who really holds the power?

3. SHREK The Musical

The Regal Theatre, Redruth

Visit The Regal Redruth and join Shrek as well as his loyal companion Donkey as they journey to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona who is locked in a tower and guarded by lovelorn dragon.

Add in the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad plus a selection of fairytale misfits and you have a marvellous mix of wonderful characters all set for a laughter-filled adventure. A perfect, must-see musical comedy treat for audiences of all ages.

4. Paulus – Looking For Me Friend: The Music of Victoria Wood

This September, make sure you watch this funny and touching tribute to a much loved and sorely missed national treasure. Written and performed by BBC1’s All Together Now star, Paulus, (‘King of Cabaret’, The Stage) this brand-new show sees him in a fresh light as a lifelong fan and devotee of the Queen of Comedy.

5. Scary Little Girls Productions – Game On

Scary Little Girls are bringing their brand new game show-inspired pub quiz and theatre performance.

Be ready for action when you join landlady Pat Pinch for a brand new game show-inspired pub quiz and theatre performance. Expect karaoke classics, trivia and a twist on some family favourites. Come on down!

Originally commissioned by Creative Scene, West Yorkshire, this show brings you the best of modern cabaret comedy, vintage TV game shows and a traditional pub quiz.

6. Dark Villages (Work in Progress)

Sam Nancarrow and Olly Hudson-Wood are bringing their new scratch show to AMATA this Autumn. Come along and scope out some new exciting work for two young creatives.

Dark Villages captures life at the centre of the living and housing crisis. Prospects are bleak, yet a light shines at the end of the street; diligently, faithfully, patiently waiting for us to turn on the rest.

Let us open the shutters, draw back the curtains, raise the blinds and our glasses to toast and celebrate this community. Come laugh and panic as we shine a light on all of us left in these Dark Villages.

7. Funnelwick Limb – The Chronicles of Atom & Luna

Launceston Town Hall, Launceston

Created by BBC 6 Music’s poet in residence and children’s author Murray Lachlan Young. This family-friendly show follows, ‘our heroes’ Atom and Luna, left home alone by their mother, as they are saved from starvation by the arrival of their magical childminder Iffley Sney.

And so begins Atom and Luna’s journey into the forest that will change their lives forever.

Head to Lane Theatre to watch Yasmina Reza’s “Art”, a brutal and hilarious examination of the delicate balance of male friendship and rampant egos.

Serge has bought a painting. To him, it’s a modern classic. But to Marc, the self-proclaimed “man apart”, it’s just a “white painting tarted up with a few off-white stripes”. Their long-suffering sidekick Yvan just wants everyone to get along. Is the difference of opinion worth destroying a twenty-year friendship?

9. Seamas Carey – Help! I think I’m a Nationalist

Seamus Carey is back with his new one-man comedy show about identity, second homes, nationalism, xenophobia and bagpipes.

Cornwall is at a tipping point. House prices soar, the population shifts, and tensions rise. Between Facebook spats, country lane stand-offs and rants down the pub, nobody’s really talking, and fewer are listening.

Could closing borders and nationalism be the answer? Where’s the line between pride and power? 
What happens when it all goes too far?

10. Bernadette Russell – 366 Days Of Kindness

Part of Carn to Cove’s Autumn season, 366 Days of Kindness is the true story of one woman’s mission is to answer the question “can kindness change the world? ” by carrying out an act of kindness for a total stranger every day for 366 days.

This is a comedy about how, despite what we are told about the state of the world, there is more love than hate, more hope than fear, and more good than bad.

11. Prototype Theatre: Dead Cats

12. Bombay Superstar

Bombay Superstar is a brand-new musical about love and betrayal in the golden age of Bollywood cinema.

Set to a soundtrack of iconic Bollywood songs from the 70s and 80s, with a cast of 11, live music and vibrant costumes,  Bombay Superstar brings the riot of colour, music, romance, and drama from the Bollywood big screen vividly to life on stage.
