The Dancing Museum: Choreography & Performance at TATE Modern

Catherine Wood, Senior Curator of International Art at Tate Modern, will talk about her work at AMATA on 1st June

Catherine Wood will talk about her work as Senior Curator of International Art at Tate Modern. Catherine programmes performance projects and is responsible for exhibitions, collection acquisitions and displays. She was instrumental in founding the performance programme at Tate Modern in 2003 and since then has programmed more than two hundred live works, by artists including Mark Leckey, Tania Bruguera, Trisha Brown, Katerina Šedá, Bojana Cvejić and Ei Arakawa, both at Tate and within the online space Performance Room that she initiated in 2011.

Catherine will talk through a range of these projects, covering formal dance, conceptual dance and artists using choreography, referring to dancers such as Merce Cunningham, projects such as Musée De La Danse and artists such as Tania Bruguera, Tino Sehgal and Pablo Bronstein. She will discuss questions underlying the programme such as site specificity and the position of dance within the contemporary museum.

This event is organised by CAST and hosted by the Academy of Music and Theatre Arts at Falmouth University, as part of the Groundwork programme.
