Leach Pottery 2 Day pottery workshop for 11-16 year olds taking place at Newlyn School of Art

Across this weekend explore throwing on a wheel and hand-building techniques.

The group will be made up of 12 participants who will be divided into smaller groups of 6 and rotate between throwing and hand-building workshops. The course is led by 2 tutors.

On the wheels participants will encounter:
· Centering clay
· Making cylinders
· Making bowls
· Turning finished pieces

In hand-building participants will encounter:
· Preparing clay
· Slab building
· Pinch Pots
· Textured Surface Decoration
· Slip Decoration

At 2.30pm on Sunday 8 December the doors of the studio will be open to the friends and families of participants for an informal viewing of the works they have made across the weekend.

The workshops will take place in Newlyn at Newlyn School of Art.

Price: £75 per participant
Equipment & materials: clay and a basic tool kit is provided. Please bring additional tools if you wish to use them along with an apron and hand towel. Please bring a packed lunch
You will leave with: (once fired) 2 hand-built and 1 thrown piece that will be fired in our electric kiln & ready for collection or * posting approximately 10 weeks post course.

Level: Ages 11-16 years old. No prior clay experience required.

Details

Please be aware, only assistance dogs are allowed in the Learning spaces. Parking:  There is ample on-site parking for participants to be dropped off.  Accessibility   Newlyn School of Art has disabled toilets and is accessible by wheelchair users. However, the building is old, and the entrance is via a set of granite steps with a steep gradient to a doorway too narrow for many wheelchairs. Entrance is possible via the back door, but this is also extremely narrow. It is best to call us with the dimensions of your wheelchair to ensure we can accommodate it.
