Bodmin

Steeped in history and located on the edge of the moor, Bodmin is one of Cornwall’s most historic towns.

Featuring an array of impressive granite buildings and historical remnants from Cornwall’s rich tin mining history, Bodmin is situated nearby to Bodmin Moor which offers beautiful, tranquil and iconic landscape to explore throughout the seasons.

The area of Bodmin itself provides a stunning backdrop to some of the most fantastic walks in Cornwall. Keen walkers can join ‘The Saint’s Way’ trail, a popular coast-to-coast walk from Padstow to Fowey, or explore Cardinham Woods which is located on the edge of Bodmin and offers four fascinating exploration trails. Cycling enthusiasts can also take a trip down the iconic Camel Trail and take in the breathtaking views of the Camel Estuary.

Bodmin is home to a number of attractions which visitors can explore all year round. The notorious Bodmin Jail was once Cornwall’s high-security prison, with its last execution said to have taken place in 1909, and today is one of the region’s most popular visitor attractions.

Bodmin is also home to a number of annual events, including Bodmin Riding and Heritage Day which takes place each July and features ‘The Beast of Bodmin’, and celebrates the ancient tradition of guise dancing.

Visitors can also take a nostalgic journey through the spectacular countryside and ride a steam train along the historic Bodmin and Wenford Railway, which guarantees to be a fascinating, alternative day out for all the family.
