Truro Cathedral

To give it its full name, The Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located on St. Mary’s Street in the buzzing Cornish city of Truro.

This Anglican cathedral was built between the years of 1880 and 1910 and followed a Gothic Revival architectural theme, giving it its unusual triple-spire construction. In fact, Truro Cathedral is one of only three cathedrals in the whole of the United Kingdom to possess three spires.

Encompassing an original parish church, the cathedral runs a packed programme of events throughout the year. In addition to its weekly communion and prayer services, visitors can explore the cathedral in an alternative way at one of the many diverse events which take place here. The annual Truro Trend Fashion Show is staged at the cathedral and showcases some of the latest fashion from local retailers, and the programme has also featured a concert organised in aid of the British Legion, comprising an evening of Cornish words and music to commemorate the Somme 100.

The cathedral also hosts regular music recitals, exhibitions and community events, as well as running a popular programme of events for children during half-term holidays, including art and craft workshops, wreath making and themed trails.

Featuring a well-stocked gift shop and an on-site restaurant serving delicious snacks, Truro Cathedral provides a pleasant and historically fascinating spot to while away a few hours.
Plenty more information can be found at the cathedral’s own website: http://www.trurocathedral.org.uk/.
