Penzance Literary Festival presents: Louise Doughty

The tenth novel from the Number One Sunday Times Bestselling author Louise Doughty, A Bird in Winter, is another page-turner: “Kept me reading well past bedtime!”, said crime writer Val McDermid. Louise herself describes it as a sort-of spy novel, but also a metaphor for women of all sorts wanting to do a runner! Bird is a woman on the run. One minute, she’s in a meeting in her office in Birmingham – the next, she’s walking out on her job, her home, her life. But nothing has prepared her for what happens next.

Fans of Louise will already know how well she creates tension in her contemporary psychological thrillers: Platform Seven and Apple Tree Yard (both of which have been serialised on television) as well as Black Water and Whatever You Love. You might also have caught the nail-biting BBC drama, Crossfire, which she created.
