About this event
FEATURING JONATHAN COUDRILLE, DUO VINGT-QUATRE, MALCOLM STAR, LYNN FLORKIEWICZ AND THE PRAA SANDS GUITAR CLUB
A treat for all lovers of the guitar, all performers have kindly donated their services.
Malcolm Star (in his own words)
I learned to sing in Chapel and the biggest lesson was to put my whole heart into it. I started with hymns, moved on to folk, blues, soul, rock and then jazz. Core lesson: music is music.
My most recent lessons have revolved around work. The harder you work at music, the better you become. Simple really but it’s taken me an age to learn that work can be fun. I still play 2-chord wonders but now I play all the other chords as well. My influences, down the years, are Miss Jenkins (Chapel), Muddy Waters, Steve Marriott, Marvin Gaye and Van Morrison.
The one constant throughout these years is that I love to play with, to and for other people. Please join me.
Lynn Florkiewicz
Lynn began playing the guitar aged ten and began singing in folk clubs at the age of fifteen. She’s very influenced by Don McLean, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell etc; however, she grew up in a home where every genre of music was played so she is often heard playing/singing a variety of styles when performing.
Lynn, in 1981, was one of five women who appeared on Stefan Grossman’s ‘Women’s Guitar Workshop’ album and the Melody Maker cited her as one of the best female guitarists in the UK at the time. In Sussex, Lynn joined forces with her schoolfriend, Joy Cross, to form the duo, Old Friends, and they sang together for several decades. Since moving to Penzance, Lynn sings mainly solo but has begun to collaborate with others.
She has two albums, is currently working on releasing a CD, gigged at numerous folk clubs and festivals here and in New England and has supported Rambling Jack Elliott and Richard Digance.

Duo Vignt-Quatre
Trisha Budd and Ken Reynolds first met many years ago at the Spanish Guitar Centre, which Trisha and her late husband Peter, a flamenco guitarist and composer, created. Having performed solo, including support sets at Hellys International Guitar Festival, and in various configurations with two, three, or more guitars, they formed Duo Vingt-Quatre (24) last year, with the express aim of keeping Peter’s music alive through his compositions and arrangements.
The 24, by the way, refers to the number of the Dordogne department in France, where Marazion-born Ken has lived for some time, and where the Duo have spent several months developing their current repertoire. Trisha specialises in playing and composing music for the classical guitar, while Ken is more focused on flamenco and la chanson française.
