Wallace will discuss the profound influence he exerted on renowned artists, including the Newlyn School, The Glasgow Boys, the Skagen art colony in Denmark, and the Heidelberg group in Australia.

In this talk, Art historian Catherine Wallace unveils the global impact of Jules Bastien-Lepage (1848 – 1884), the French rural realist painter. Delving into the late 19th century, Wallace illuminates how Bastien-Lepage’s en plein air (outdoor) paintings depicting rural French peasants resonated across international art circles.
