About this event
Award winning artist Andrew Barrowman is known for making work inspired by Cornwall’s most beautiful and dramatic locations, using a variety of mediums from charcoal, graphite and pastel to egg tempura and oil paint. This exclusive collection, his third for Whitewater Contemporary, takes us off the beaten track, exploring the beautiful North Cornwall coast from quiet places and hidden footpaths. Created with willow charcoal on paper and board, these drawings are inspired by the coastal landscape around Polzeath. It includes views of The Rumps, Lundy Bay, Polzeath Beach, Pentire Glaze, Stepper Point, the River Amble and views across the ocean from Epphaven cove. Two of the included works were created during drawing demonstrations which Andrew undertook at the 2026 Pastel Society Annual Exhibition at Mall Galleries, London.
In 2021, Andrew Barrowman was awarded the Bowyer Drawing Prize at The New English Art Club annual exhibition. In 2023 he was elected as an associate member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and as a full member of the Pastel Society. In 2024 he won the Artist Magazine Award at the Pastel Society’s 125th exhibition, and took part in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year. He is also the author of Views from the Studio Window, a book of 120 oil sketches looking out from his studio over the course of a year.
