About this event
This November, to celebrate the special beauty of North Cornwall in winter, Whitewater Contemporary brings you new paintings by Suki Wapshott. Suki lives and works at her studio above Polzeath, looking out across the wide Atlantic Ocean and painting emphatic, large-scale canvases throughout the seasons.
Suki regularly walks the North Cornwall countryside and coast in all weathers, absorbing impressions of the landscape that inspire her studio paintings. Created through delicate veils of colour, followed by rich applications of paint in her finely tuned palette, works in this collection capture the surging waters and brooding weather systems of cold winter days, as well as those precious moments of winter sun that light up the sand at low tide. Taking in views of the Camel Estuary, Pentire and Polzeath out of season, these paintings express Suki’s passion for the landscape around her home, a feeling she shares with her many, devoted collectors.
Suki Wapshott is a graduate of Oxford University and has lived and worked in Polzeath on the North Cornwall coast for more than two decades. Her paintings are inspired by her love of English literature and her daily walks along the coastline, as well as the view from her studio high above the beach. Suki’s work is held in private collections in the UK and worldwide.
