ARTchive – Sew a Shrine!

Create a pocket oratory from treasured fabric.

Join artist Vicki Aimers to create a special pocket shrine or a ‘pocket oratory’ that can double up as a useful needle case made from fragments of precious cloth and found treasures.

Shrines come in all shapes and sizes and can be made from a wide variety of materials. They may be somewhere to visit or something that’s small and intimate enough to be carried in a pocket!

Shrines are found in many cultures across the world and some are as old as time. These unique objects or places can give inspirational energy to many and are often beautifully decorated no matter how small they are.

During the workshop, you will explore simple patching techniques, play with decorative stitches and embellish your creation with a quote to make a mini shrine that’s personal to you.

If you enjoy collecting things and making interesting objects with a story to tell then this is the workshop for you!

Beginners welcome. Simple stitch techniques will be shown on the day.

Some materials to make your shrine personal to you would be welcome for the workshop.

IMPORTANT: Please bring with you the following items for the workshop:
– any scrap fabric you love (just small pieces about the size of a handkerchief and smaller)
– trinkets/beads/buttons/lace/ribbons/trims (for embellishment)
– a selection of your favourite coloured embroidery threads (2 skeins if possible)
– your own sewing kit (if possible but not essential)

Pre-booking is essential as spaces are limited. The workshop costs £10, which is payable on booking.

Please note, refreshments will not be provided. The new Ginkgo café at Kresen Kernow will be open on the day (serving drinks, cakes, snacks and lunch items) or you are welcome to bring your own refreshments.
