Artist Talk with David Ward

David writes:
“For many years I have thought of certain studios and some art galleries as being like ships. This metaphor, of the studio as a vessel, struck me clearly when I visited Anchor Studio. It appeared to me like a boat, anchored on the hill above Newlyn’s working harbour.”

David Ward will be at Anchor Studio for the month of August. This talk will reflect on relationships between painting and his work in a range of light and time-based mediums including photography, performance and projected light works. The talk will focus on a range of recent works.

David’s long connection with West Penwith began in 1971 when, as a painting student at Winchester School of Art, he attended a field trip hosted by Patrick and Delia Heron. During that week he also met Bryan Wynter, Roger Hilton, Bernard Leach, Tony O’Malley, Denis Mitchell, John Wells and Sheila Lanyon.

Describing those early experiences and his first introductions to the land and seascapes of Cornwall David talks about the significance of continuity, change and renewal in West Penwith.
