About this event
“Without a doubt the best live act I saw” – Gilles Peterson
BCUC (Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) brings the spirit of Soweto to the global stage, blending indigenous funk with hip-hop consciousness and punk energy. From their beginnings in a shipping container near Desmond Tutu’s church, they’ve risen to become one of South Africa’s most powerful musical voices.
Their prodigious live shows, which earned them the 2023 Womex Artist Award, combine ancestral traditions with contemporary energy. Following in the footsteps of Philip “Malombo” Tabane and Batsumi, this seven-piece band creates transformational performances that tackle modern Africa’s harsh realities while celebrating its rich spiritual traditions.
Expect an evening of what they call “emo-indigenous Afro psychedelic fire from the hood.” Fresh from electrifying performances at Glastonbury and Afropunk Brooklyn, BCUC demonstrates why they’ve become one of the world’s most celebrated live acts.
“Guaranteed to touch untapped corners of your soul” – Okayafrica “The most impressive newcomers this year” – The Guardian “One of my highlights” – Nick Dewey, Glastonbury Festival
