About this event
Join us for an evening of community and solidarity with a free film screening of The Beat of Our Hearts, a play by Natalie McGrath.
At the centre of the play are four characters – Val, Dove, Quill, and Luca – whose sense of community is shaken by the destruction of the pride flag they raised in their quiet seaside town in the southwest. Gathering one evening in a library, they discover an old sepia photograph and together they begin to build their own queer archive. From their initial despair at the play’s outset, The Beat of Our Hearts tells a story of LGBTQIA+ community and belonging; loneliness and isolation; and the quest for queer and trans joy.
This screening is a collaborative event with Queer Kernow and Kresen Kernow, and will be introduced by Andy Hunt, CEO of Intercom Trust, a community-led LGBT+ charity.
Doors open at 6pm, non-alcoholic refreshments provided. The film starts at 6.30pm and ends at 8.15pm.
This is a FREE event for all ages.
Due to limited tickets available, please book your free space on our Ticket Tailor event page.
Kresen Kernow is wheelchair accessible, with lifts to all levels, automatic entrance doors and accessible toilets. Please get in touch if you have any accessibility requirements [email protected].
This event is funded by an AHRC Impact Acceleration Account Award from Swansea University. The Beat of Our Hearts was performed at Exeter Northcott in 2022, and filmed by Simon’s Video Kitchen. The project was a partnership between the University of Exeter’s Wellcome Centre, the Intercom Trust and the Exeter Northcott Theatre, with support from the AHRC and Arts Council England. The project was led by Dr Charlotte Jones.
