About this event
I am very fortunate to live and work by the sea in the much loved village of Downderry. Downderry is a popular destination for dog walkers, coast path hikers, wild swimmers, surfers and holidaymakers who just want a quiet place by the sea. We have a pub, a café, a restaurant and a village shop so something for everyone.
I have been Printmaking in earnest for the last 15 years, initially specialising in Etching, which I did at the Tamar Print workshop with Mary Gillett. After the first lockdown, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a press and turn my living room into my permanent studio space. This in turn has enabled me to explore other printing processes such as larger linocuts, mono print, drypoint and collagraphy.
My work is very much influenced by my watery surroundings, especially what lies beneath the surface and what is invisible to the naked eye. I’m particularly interested in how we can make deeper connections with our environment through art. I love researching marine life and marine habitats, I love rockpooling and snorkelling and then re-imagining what I have seen. I collect and press seaweed and use this in my work too. My studio is also my research archive, it’s full of beach finds, dried seaweed, the skeletons of birds and other sea creatures, the flotsam and jetsam that the sea produces daily.
I look forward to welcoming you into my world.
