About this event
Gweek Players are delighted to be staging Blithe Spirit by Noël Coward at Gweek Village Hall. The play is set in 1937, a time when one dressed for dinner and sipped dry martinis.
The flamboyant socialite and novelist Charles Condomine invites Madame Arcati, an eccentric medium and clairvoyant, to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book. The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his annoying and temperamental first wife, Elvira, as she tries to sabotage Charles’s marriage to Ruth, his second, much younger wife, who cannot see or hear the ghost.
Noël Coward was an English playwright, composer, director and actor best known for his comedies and musical style. The author of over fifty plays in a writing career spanning half a century, he is ranked as one of the most influential English cultural figures of the twentieth century.
