About this event
Join us at National Trust Botallack Count House for ‘Hark! The Glad Sound of Cornish Carols’ – an evening of beautiful Cornish Carolling by the Red River Singers and the tales behind the songs.
Cornish carols are unique and have a long history which deserves recognition. These carols are part of Cornwall’s rich communal singing.
In 2016 Sally Burley and Hilary Coleman began exploring the continuity and revival of the Cornish carolling tradition. During the winter they travelled around Cornwall, recording stories, memories and local versions of carols. Their book, ‘Hark! The Glad Sound of Cornish Carols’, was published in November 2017 and received an Holyer An Gof award in 2018 as well as the Publishers Cup.
Hilary will be telling tales of their adventures as well as ‘illustrating’ the talk with carols by the Red River Singers. Carol lyrics will be provided if you want to join in.
The event runs from 4pm to 6pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the performance. Please book a ticket to guarantee a seat.
There is plenty of parking available, charges apply (National Trust members are free).
