About this event
Drawing on the rich cultural heritage of Cajun music — a genre born in the cultural melting pot of Louisiana — Lafayette blends French‑tinged vocals, syncopated accordion lines, and fiery fiddle breaks to pay homage to centuries of folk traditions. Their repertoire includes classic Cajun two‑steps, waltzes and a sprinkling of Appalachian tunes that reflect the ever‑evolving spirit of Louisiana’s musical landscape. This is music made to dance to, and Lafayette’s gigs are invariably lively and joyful occasions.
With a line-up of seasoned musicians — Eric Lafrogne (vocals, banjo, Cajun triangle, harmonica), Hannah Sedgwick (fiddle, vocals), Elly van Veen (button accordion) and Frank van Veen (guitar/bass, bass drum, vocals) — Lafayette have been honing their sound with a string of gigs in pubs and clubs around Cornwall. In the last year, they have been joined by dance caller Holly Post … for very successful and sold-out Cajun dance evenings. Think something a bit like a ceilidh, yet very different…
So, don your dancing shoes, shout out your indignation that “les Haricots sont pas salés”, and come along to the Bayou with Lafayette in the Acorn.
