About this event
Join local girl, Jane Nancarrow, for a walk around Launceston as she introduces you to places that inspired Charles Causley’s poetry. The walk begins at Eagle House where Jane gives a reading of the poem, ‘Eagle One Eagle Two’ and finishes at the riverside and the white-washed cottage by the river, where Charles was born, and Jane reads a final poem. Jane explores places such as the Castle Green and Charles’ poem ‘Paradise’, goes down to his home at Tredydan Road, where he lived with his mother, and enters St Thomas churchyard at Riverside to read a poem at Charles’ grave.
Jane Nancarrow was born in Launceston and attended the old National School where she was taught by Charles Causley whose poetry captured her imagination. She went on to teach English at Bodmin College for 30 years. She is a published writer of short stories and novels. Her novels are all set in Launceston and North Cornwall. In 2018, Jane became a Bard of Gorsedh Kernow for services to Cornish Literature with the Bardic name, Scrifores nans Karow.
