About this event
The Cornwall Garden Society’s 2023/2024 Lecture Series commences with two lectures by passionate plantsman, Alan Down.
Having worked for 50 years in various horticultural contexts, Alan is passionate about gardening, gardens, wildlife and the natural world.
His career has incorporated the glasshouse industry, orchard fruit-growing, the hardy ornamental nursery stock sector and Hillier Nurseries where he worked with Sir Harold Hillier and Roy Lancaster.
Alan and his wife, Felicity later transformed Cleeve Nursery and Garden Centre into a successful business, which became a Royal Horticultural Partner Nursery.
Alan also writes topical garden columns and is the current President of the Horticultural Trades Association.
His first lecture – Autumn Colour – will take place at The Alverton, Truro on Tuesday 10th October at 7.30pm, straight after the CGS AGM at 7pm.
His second lecture – Magnolias – will be held at Penventon Park Hotel, Redruth on Wednesday 11th October at 2.30pm.
Lectures are free for members and there is no need to book. Non-members are welcome to attend to find out more about the Society and donations are gratefully received.
