About this event
Join Cornwall Air Ambulance for our first charity abseil event in May 2022; just £20 to register!
The Basics
Event date: Sunday 8th May 2022
Start time: 12:30pm
Location: Crooklets Beach, Bude
Height abseiling from: 120ft
The challenge: Two ropes will run down the face so two people will abseil together and this means that you will have time for at least two abseils each.
Capacity: 20 people
Abseil provider: Shoreline Extreme Sports
How much: £150 sponsorship, registration fee is £20 (non-refundable)
About the event:
Bude lies at the heart of the Culm coast, which stretches along the cliffs of Normal Cornwall and Devon, and provides an array of amazingly folded and buckled cliffs. With the erosion of the sea these cliffs have been left with only the hardest rock layers protruding out into the ocean creating steeps, narrow headlands and free standing fins.
These smith slab-like cliff faces are perfect for abseiling. The top of the abseil offers a good flat start and a nice rounded edge to back over before getting onto the smooth slightly angled main face of the cliff. With these faces reaching over 100ft in height the abseiler has plenty of time to enjoy their descent with the reassurance that the instructor always has them connected and controlled with extra safety rope.
The Cornwall Air Ambulance abseil will take place at the Shoreline dedicated abseil site just north of Crooklets Beach, offering a 120 ft abseil down a smooth slabby cliff face. Two parallel abseils will be in operation so you can abseil down with your friends, family or even colleagues, reassuring each other as you go. There should be time to walk back to the top to enjoy another descent with more confidence.
Additional dates can be organised if you would like to book a private charity abseil with your work colleagues, or perhaps a large family group.
