Charity Open Day
St Michael’s Mount is opening for the National Garden Scheme 10am-5pm
The St Aubyn family, generous supporters of the National Garden Scheme, are kindly opening the iconic gardens of St Michael’s Mount to raise money for a range of nursing and health charities, such as Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Support and Parkinson’s UK.
During Storm Goretti, the island experienced extremely strong westerly winds, which caused significant damage to the woodland on the exposed northerly side of the island however, the terraced gardens on the sheltered south-easterly side, were left untouched. Visitors will be interested to see the significant progress that has been made to clear the 121 fallen trees, which has created the opportunity for replanting. Care is being taken to ensure that any new planting will be resilient and respect the island’s unique character. Visitors will also be delighted to discover that the subtropical terraced gardens remain intact and as vibrant as ever because they were sheltered from the worst of the storm
