About this event
Gary started school work experience, at a local landscaping firm. He did a 2-year apprenticeship at National Trust Trelissick. Then, 5 years at Hotel St Michaels entering and winning “Falmouth in Bloom” with their hanging baskets and summer bedding displays. He spent 9 Years at Tregothnan botanical gardens as assistant head gardener and helped to establish their first Tea plantation.
He became only the third head gardener at Trewithen in 2004 after 2 years as assistant to Mike Taylor.
In 2007, he decided to travel to South east China to study Camellia species. He travelled to the Yunnan province of South-west China in 2012 to follow the exact route that the great plant hunter George Forrest took in 1932 on his last expedition to China. He visited towns, villages and trekked through woodland.
