The classical music group Harmoniemusik is delighted to return to give three concerts at the Parish Church of St Columb Major this August.
Harmoniemusik’s ‘Classic Cornwall’ series has secured a loyal and enthusiastic following since its first concerts in August 1992, when it began its annual celebration of outstanding chamber music in the beautiful setting of the Parish Church at St Columb Major, an historic venue noted for its beautiful acoustic.
Since its formation in 1991, Harmoniemusik has given more than three hundred concerts in the United Kingdom, Europe and beyond, has made a number of CD recordings (which are broadcast from time to time on Radio 3) and has become renowned for its distinctive repertoire and performance style.
– Tuesday’s concert includes Mozart’s wonderful Piano Quartet K 493 and Vivaldi’s concerto ‘La Tempesta di Mare’.
– Thursday’s performance features a quintet by J.C. Bach, three quirky Shostakovitch trios, Blumer’s tuneful Sextet for piano and wind and Gabriel Fauré’s masterpiece, the Opus 15 Piano Quartet.
– Saturday’s concert has an initial French flavour with Poulenc’s dazzling Sextet for Piano and Wind and Jean Francaix’s quirky L’heure du Berger, with the second half of the concert to include a selection of lighter works by Gershwin, Strauss, Malcolm Arnold and others
In a departure from previous years’ scheduling, Thursday’s concert will begin at 4pm with cream teas available from the Columba Centre from 3pm. Light pre-concert suppers (from 6pm) will be available from the Columba Centre on Tuesday and Saturday and the concerts on these days will begin at 7.30pm.
