About this event
Clive Harold Palmer (14 May 1943 – 23 November 2014) was an English musician and banjoist, probably best known as a founding member of the Incredible String Band. Born in London Clive moved into Cornwall and was one of the resident players at The Folk Cottage in Mitchell a very influential club which spawned many fine folk musicians and featured luminaries such as Ralph McTell, Wizz Jones, John The Fish & Brenda Wootton to name only a few. After travelling extensively in India, Afghanistan, Europe, he eventually settled in Brittany before returning to Cornwall. He was a very well respected and influential musician and was active in music until his sad and untimely passing. To mark the tenth anniversary of Clive’s passing a Tribute Concert will be held at The Bird In Hand, Hayle, on Sunday 01st September from 2pm. Featuring contributions from friends and fans such as: The Cunning Old Celts – Tony Corden (with friends) – Alan Burton & Steve Hunt – Jonathon Coudrille – Hand Picked (Mic McCreadie & Adrian O’Reilly) – Matthew Deighton – Mike Silver (with Jo Partridge) ending with an ensemble finale ably augmented and assisted by contributions from all the above and possibly some others.
Clive’s musical performances and recordings have been remarked upon by several notable musicians. Such as:
Elton John: ‘Banjoland is one of the most under-rated albums of recent years by Incredible String Band Alumnus Clive Palmer.’ – Billy Connolly: ‘Clive is unquestionably the best banjo player I ever heard. He was, and still is, my banjo hero. He is truly a wonderful player.’, Ralph McTell: A master musician who continued to learn and explore his craft all his life on a multiplicity of musical instruments. John Bidwell: Clive Palmer, was a man of such eccentric and non-compromising talents, his music was of a purity which caused it to influence all around him.’
