About this event
by Irene Sankoff & David Hein
Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust return to the Minack Theatre with Come From Away! Following previous Minack successes including ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and the 2018 Minack Trophy Award Winning production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, RAOST are delighted to be back.
Come From Away is a critically acclaimed musical that tells the remarkable true story of kindness and community in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks. When U.S. airspace was suddenly closed, 38 planes were forced to land in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, nearly doubling its population overnight. The musical focuses not on fear or tragedy, but on the generosity and compassion shown by the townspeople, known as “Newfoundlanders,” toward the stranded passengers, who were referred to as “come from aways.”
Written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the show blends humour, heart and history through a fast-paced narrative and an energetic folk-inspired score.
Rather than focusing on the attacks themselves, Come From Away celebrates empathy, and the power of ordinary people coming together when everyone needed it most.
