About this event
Join us at our highly anticipated ‘In Conversation event with Patrick Gale’ charity, fundraising gala dinner at the stunning Grade II listen Eagle House Hotel and gin distillery, where he will talk all things Mother’s Boy!
Based on the youth and boyhood of Charles Causley and the life of his mother, Patrick’s latest novel begins when Laura Causley meets her soon-to-be husband when they are both in service in Teignmouth in 1916. They have a baby, Charles, but Laura’s husband returns home from the trenches a damaged man, already ill with the tuberculosis that will soon leave her a widow. In a small, class-obsessed town she raises her boy alone, working as a laundress, and gradually becomes aware that he is some kind of genius.
Described by Waterstones as “Tender, compassionate and rich in psychological truth […] with thrilling emotional complexity and multi-layered characterisation” join us on Friday 4th March from 7-10pm at Eagle House Hotel to get to know the author beneath the page. Following this, take part in our charity auction.
