About this event
On show this May as part of Whitewater Contemporary’s Featured Artist series, artist Debbie Lush presents an exhibition of vibrant paintings inspired by the landscape of the South West.
Lush attended Harrow School of Art in London and went on to study illustration at the Royal College of Art. Her brightly coloured landscapes are based on walks with her dog and sketchbook along weather beaten coastal paths, past rural villages, beside streams and rivers, and over agricultural fields shaped by livestock and crop farming.
This new collection takes us walking towards the West, mapping the landscape and capturing the inspirational colours and textures of landscape along the way. “The real landscape is a route to escape into” says Debbie, “a world of colour, composition and detail that I love getting lost in”. Back in her studio she translates her drawings into bright, imaginary, almost illustrative compositions, heightening the beauty and colour of the landscape with an uplifting and romantic sense of charm and joy. Debbie Lush now lives and works at her studio in the rural South West.
