About this event
To view in my open studio will be oil paintings, prints and cards. I work with oils mostly on canvas and board. The subject matter is landscape based on places I have lived and visited. Most of this is based on coastal Cornish landscapes and more recently work about my homeland Ireland where I grew up and left to go to Art College when I was 18.
Work to view begins with a walk in the landscape taking photographs and quick sketches. In the studio I transpose and play with these forms to create structures for paintings. I then play with colour formations building up thin washes of paint to create congruous forms which gradually evolve into a thicker gestural application of paint. Colour is my main interest giving mood, tone and space to the work. Through hues of colour I hope to convey the dramatic felt experience of being in nature and the elements. This creates my landscape which I invite the viewer to enjoy.
I am privileged to be part of a vibrant group of artists working in this beautiful garden woodland setting. The experience to the visitor will be a friendly welcome one for art and nature lovers alike. You may care to extend your visit from the studios to Trewidden Gardens and Tearooms.
