Dirty Business: Accidental Activists looks at those everyday heroes who spoke up to expose the pollution scandal depicted in Channels 4’s docu-series Dirty Business.

What makes a person take action? This exhibition tells the story of regular people who could no longer stay quiet in the face the unacceptable.

Dirty Business: Accidental Activists introduces us to Heather Preen, who passed away aged 8 after contracting e-coli on a Devon beach, and her mother Julie, who has spent the last quarter of a century campaigning against sewage pollution. We meet Ash and Peter, who after noticing that fish have been in their local river, end up discovering a trail of cover ups and industrial scale obfuscation in the corporate water industry and the government regulator. We meet the real whistleblowers who risked their careers when they say wrongdoing. We also meet campaigner Chris Hines, who co-founded groundbreaking environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage after becoming fed up with regularly getting ill from paddling through sewage released into the sea.

Dirty Business: Accidental Activists aims to demonstrate that no one is born an activist of campaigner, but everyone can make a difference by speaking up.
