About this event
Come and celebrate with us and Cornwall National Landscape on the 9th May with an evening of Storytelling and a good ol’ fashioned Cornish sing-song!
Arrival from 7pm to grab a drink and view the Drolla Bench in our newly refurbished garden!
Then an evening of storytelling, music and ending on a ‘shout’ lead by Daniel Woodfield.
The evening will feature a reading by Pascale Petit…. I wrote ‘Beast of Bodmin’ when I won the inaugural Laurel Prize for the best collection of ecopoetry from the previous five years, for my seventh collection Mama Amazonica. The commission from AONB Cornwall was in addition to the poet laureate Simon Armitage’s prize.
As well as a debut performance of ‘Up on the Moor’ a new folk song for the people of Bodmin Moor co-created by Dan Woodfield, Kevin Brinn, Anna Anise, Ryan Jones and the people that contributed from Blisland Inn, The Crows Nest (Darite) and The Wilsey Down Pub (Camelford). Commissioned by intoBodmin, Lowender and Cornwall National Landscape.
There will also be spoken word performances from Bring Your Verses and music from Cornish Tunes Club.
More about the Drolla Bench…
Commissioned and co-designed by the Cornwall National Landscape team and crafted by renowned Cornish metal sculptors Thrussells, Drolla, which takes its name from the Cornish word for “folk tale” seamlessly blends intricate artistry with functional design. Its metalwork teems with symbols of Cornwall’s rich cultural tapestry: from mythical creatures and ancient legends to indigenous flora and fauna. Each flourish and curve is a gentle prompt to look a little deeper, listen a little more closely and appreciate the stories that live in the land.
The project underscores Cornwall National Landscape’s commitment to promoting the importance of open, accessible green and blue spaces for leisure, health and recreation. Ultimately, Drolla – The Storytelling Bench encourages visitors to share their own experiences, connecting personal narratives with a larger tapestry of Cornish life.
