How does it feel for sons and daughters, cleaners and waiters, evangelists of difference and custodians of culture to lean over the gate and observe the agitations of arrival – grating locks, misplaced emphases in tannoy announcements, the romanticising of lore, the dilution of custom? How do they arrive at a mindset that smiles a gentle welcome?
