About this event

Our first exhibition of the year showcases a collection of oil paintings inspired by walks along the rugged coastline of West Penwith.

Dan Bilton works from his studio in Praze-an-beeble near Camborne, Cornwall. He is inspired by walks around the rugged coastline of West Penwith near his home and the many ancient sites found in the area.

Working from sketches made on site, concentrating on charcoal marks mainly made on wooden board, which he builds up with oil paint exploring the textures and colours found in the land and seascape. The paintings become abstracted from memories and the energy experienced from these visits back in the studio.

Dan studied Fine Art at Plymouth University and has exhibited widely across the West Country.

The collection of paintings in this exhibition is titled ‘Hireth’ – a Cornish word meaning a connection to the landscape.
