About this event

Unusually for Cornish painters, Martin focusses on the inland scenery of the county in his semi-abstract landscapes, with the occasional pink cow!

Martin Holmes is a painter who creates figurative and semi-abstract landscapes exploring the visual language of his local environment, drawing primary inspiration from the inland scenery of Cornwall.

Working from his home studio in Breage, he captures the changing nature of his surroundings through expressive use of colour, texture and contrast. He works mainly in acrylic on board or canvas and tends to avoid overt man-made elements, allowing the landscape itself to take centre stage.

Alongside this, Martin has developed a growing fondness for painting pink cows. In 2025, he was awarded first place in the Porthleven Harbour Arts Prize.
