About this event
On March 19th, bestselling author John Ironmonger will return to Cornwall, where he lived as a child, to launch his new book, The Wager and the Bear, at the Falmouth Bookseller. Set in the fictional Cornish fishing village of St Piran, this is the beautifully told story of two men: idealist young Cornishman, Tom Horsmith, and his nemesis, blustering Tory MP, Monty Causley. The tale begins with a row between the pair that goes viral on social media. The result of the row is a deadly wager, the consequences of which will follow the two men through five decades and will ultimately find them both cut adrift on an iceberg sailing away from the Greenland ice sheet, with only a starving polar bear for company.
Intrigued? You will be. So why not come along to the Falmouth Bookseller, 21 Church St, Falmouth TR11 3EG on March 19th from 6.30pm. Meet the author, hear a reading from the novel and ask questions.
John Ironmonger is a delightful and knowledgeable speaker, and will share with his audience the inspiration behind the story, not least in which was his research trip to the Greenland ice sheet.
