About this event
Pick up your pens, open your ears and prepare to be entertained, amused, regaled, fascinated, entranced and captivated by local writers, poets and historians alongside the river in Looe.
Running from October 1st to the 6th, the Looe Festival of Words is a new celebration for readers, writers and anyone who loves words. It’s being organised by members of the local community, for the local community, although they would welcome any visitors who wish to attend!
There will be workshops, crafting, guided walks, author talks, poetry celebrations, a writing-themed rockpool ramble, pop-up storytelling, a literary takeover of the Liskeard to Looe train, an all-day Book Fair, and so much more. Plus, all events will be FREE to attend, although many will require booking in advance.
The Book Fair on Saturday 5th will be open to all and will include authors selling books, talks and presentations. Those giving talks include local authors such as Ellie Jackson, Lisa Woollett and newly made Cornish bard, Brian Oldham. This will all take place in the Millpool Centre, and is supported by Hermitage Press. On the same day the Mazed puppets will be roaming the streets of Looe with tales from Cornish folklore, Looe Marine Conservation Group will be delving into the poetic possibilities f rockpools, and the very wonderful (and very pink) Sally Crabtree will be taking over the catering on the Looe Valley train line with her interactive CreativiTEA Catering trolley.
Looe Festival of Words is supported by FEAST, Cornwall Council, Looe Library and Community Hub, Literature Works, Welcome to Looe and Polperro, Looe Harbour Commissioners, and Looe Development Trust.
