Fifty fabulous flags – summer crafts at Kresen Kernow!

From world flags and protest flags to alphabet flags and semaphore! Learn about the different types of flags that have connections to Cornwall’s history.

Using coloured fabric paint and pre-made canvas flags with wooden poles, come and make a beautiful flag to take home and hang up somewhere special!

Make a flag from the countries that miners migrated to, such as Africa, Mexico and Canada! Paint a flag inspired by PK Porthcurno’s collection of alphabet and semaphore flags that were used to communicate.

Or design your own protest flag about something that is important to you – such as keeping our seas sewage free, an LGBTQ+ flag or anything else you are passionate about! 🏳‍🌈

This activity is free, drop in and for all ages!

Can’t make it on this day? Don’t worry, this activity will also be available on Tuesday 6 August.

This activity is inspired by our upcoming exhibition (Cornish Connections) about mining and telegraphy in Cornwall and Africa in collaboration with PK Porthcurno – Museum of Global Communications.

Details

Kresen Kernow is fully wheelchair and pushchair accessible, with lifts to all levels and automatic main entrance doors. Accessible toilets are available on both floors, with a fully-equipped Changing Places toilet also available on the ground floor. Separate baby changing facilities are also available on the ground floor. If you are arriving by vehicle, there are six accessible parking spaces at the Tesco side of the building and a level entrance into the building. If you are arriving on foot or wheels, from Redruth town centre, the closest entrance is at the end of the public path which runs through the old brewery site, from Chapel Street to Kresen Kernow.
