Exhibition: Faddying it thro’ the streets
Myttin da pob!
Are you getting ready to “faddy it through the streets?”
Folklorists and Cornish culture lovers, here’s a date for your diaries. Our next exhibition launches on 20 April and is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the oldest accounts of the ancient Springtime festival of Flora Day.
Curated by Tom Goskar, archaeologist and historian of Cornish customs, “Faddying it through the streets” explores what it was like to experience Flora Day during the 18th and 19th centuries through contemporary accounts published in newspapers, letters and books.
The accounts will be combined by period pieces from our beloved collection including historical musical instruments and costume. This will be a visual feast.
From the singing of Hal-an-Tow to the tune of the Helston Furry, to a time before brass bands, midnight balls, theatre, and guns in the streets, we will follow the strange and the familiar, celebrating the evolution of “This Ancient Festival.”
