About this event
Acclaimed broadcaster Petroc Trelawny will host a Gala Evening of music and heritage at St Hilary Church on Saturday July 11, as he kicks off a season of events celebrating the 100th anniversary of an historic BBC broadcast from the church.
The concert, “Bach for Bells”, brings together leading professional musicians, whose pieces will be interspersed with readings by Petroc. The broadcaster and author will also discuss the church’s long and colourful history in conversation with St Hilary’s Father Jeff Risbridger.
St Hilary has the distinction of being the location for the BBC’s first outside broadcast of a drama, when, on December 22, 1926, the nation tuned into “Bethlehem”, a nativity play, written by vicar at that time, Father Bernard Walke.
