About this event
Bonython Gardens (Near Helston ) – Lamorran Gardens (St. Mawes)
This is the fourth lecture in a series of 6 by Catherine Wallace on Cornish Garden history. The Bonython estate on the Lizard has been developed in recent times by Sue and Richard Nathan. Originally owned by the Bonython family from the 13th to 18th centuries, John Trevenen then built the Georgian manor house as well as the walled garden. The Lyle family took it over and Mary Lucy Lyle ran it from 1921 with a policy of “no flowers or colour”. Thankfully the current owners have reversed that rule with more modern ideas of colour in planting along with installing thousands of trees.
Lamorran Gardens on the Roseland Peninsula is a recent garden created by Robert and Maria Antionetta Dudley- Cooke who since 1982 have worked tirelessly to produce an idyllic Mediterranean terraced garden set into the steep hillside overlooking Falmouth bay with stunning views while paying homage to Arcadia by including Classical architectural features & sculpture.
