Penzance Litfest presents: Success Stories from a Penzance Refuge 1908-1990 with Jenny Dearlove.

Folk singer Linda Collins will be quizzing Jenny Dearlove about her book Women to the Rescue: A Penzance Refuge for Girls in Trouble. Jenny, who is chair of Penwith Local History Group, tells the story of some 3,000 young women and girls who were helped to make a new life. The disconnect between society’s expectations of a respectable life, alongside the reality for some girls trapped by circumstances, will be illustrated by contemporary magazines and comics along with two Cornish songs.
