About this event
Experience a relaxing and inspiring day of creativity in the spectacular surroundings of Glendurgan Garden. This workshop explores the expressive use of colour using professional-quality oil pastels and oil bars, with all materials included in the course fee. National Trust membership needed.
The garden’s extraordinary collection of exotic plants, vibrant flowers, lush foliage and hidden pathways provides endless inspiration. Together we will explore the exciting use of magenta, orange and other bold colour combinations, discovering how expressive colour can transform a landscape into a vibrant and personal piece of artwork.
Through demonstrations and individual guidance, you’ll learn how to simplify complex scenes, develop strong compositions and use layering, blending and mark-making techniques to create rich, luminous effects. You’ll be encouraged to experiment, work intuitively and build confidence in your own creative style rather than aiming for a photographic copy.
Suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous drawing or painting experience, this friendly workshop offers a relaxed atmosphere where everyone can enjoy learning at their own pace. Aimed at and including developing new artistic skills, reconnect with your creativity or simply spend time surrounded by nature, you’ll leave with fresh inspiration and plenty of artwork to take home.
The workshop begins at 10.00am and finishes at approximately 3.00pm, with a one-hour lunch break to enjoy the garden and café facilities or a packed lunch in the beautiful surroundings.
All materials, including professional oil pastels and oil bars, are provided. Please wear suitable clothing for working outdoors and bring a sketchbook if you have one, although sketchbooks will also be available.
Come and discover how bold colour, expressive mark-making and the beauty of Glendurgan Garden can inspire exciting new ways of seeing and creating.
