About this event
Suitable for beginners and those with more experience, this workshop will teach you how to shape granite using stonemasonry hand-tools. The aim of the workshop is to create a spiral-shaped kneeler stone, typical of Cornish buildings. David Paton, expert granite sculptor, stonemason, researcher and university lecturer will be leading a very small group to get to grips with granite and instruct participants in the variety of techniques and tools required to create something beautiful and functional with our local stone. You will be able to take away your granite creation at the end of the workshop.
This workshop is suitable for creatives, stone crafters, landscapers, gardeners, Cornish hedgers and those who would like to experience carving granite. The training is very hands-on, so a good level of fitness for hammering and chiselling is required. PPE can be provided.
This workshop is part of CREST’s (Cornwall Rural Education and Skills Training) programme of training.
