About this event
A 1-day Pilgrimage from Cardis Bay St Ives to Chapel Rock, near St Michael’s Mount
Distance: 10 miles
Guided by our volunteer Nina, who has a deep affinity for this part of Cornwall, sharing fascinating insights into the healing miracles associated with the area. Discover a variety of spiritual paths on the route dedicated to the Archangel Michael.
You’ll have the opportunity to experience the healing nature of the sea, via an ancient hill fort, two nature reserves and historic churches. Follow a stream right to the sacred Chapel Rock at St. Michael’s Mount, close to the point where the four Ley Lines cross. The rock is the site of ancient oratory, destroyed by the Royalists in 1645. Remembering the healing miracles experienced by pilgrims to St. Michael’s Mount in 1262 and recorded by the Benedictine monks at the time, and imagining the dangers and obstacles faced by those early pilgrims, you may be inspired to bring your own petitions and offerings to this ancient holy place, sacred even in pre-Christian times.
Pilgrims may choose to forage flowers to make offerings to Yemanja, the Virgin Mary and the Archangel Michael with songs and a sea swim if desired. We cross some of the ley lines as we walk so dowsers may wish to douse for them.
Please be aware this route involves two steep climbs and one steep descent, lots of country stiles, with public toilets at start and finish only.
