About this event
Visit us with your nearest and dearest this February half term and make some new friends at the Seal Sanctuary!
Meet this season’s seal pups in our hospital as they rest and recover and learn all about their rescue and rehabilitation from our Animal Care Team.
This year, we will also be also hosting a ‘Guess the Weight of the Pup’ competition, where you could win a prize for guessing the weight of our nominated pup!
You’ll also have the chance to enjoy a hot snack and a delicious hot chocolate from our onsite café, take a stroll through Secret Creek and say “hello” to our cute baby beavers as they settle in to their new home.
From visiting our long-term seal residents, to exploring our paddocks full of rare breed sheep and our four very cheeky Pygmy goats, there’s something to see for all ages!
Accessibility
Details
Due to the nature of our location, there are some steep gradients on our site. From our main reception area and car park, it is about a 600m walk to our seal hospital, and then a further 300m downhill to our seal pools. Please read the following information to help plan your visit with us. Please call us on 01326 221 361 so we can help you make the most of your day, or email [email protected]. Visitors using mobility scooters or electric wheelchairs The hills leading down to our pools may exceed 16° which may not be suitable for some mobility scooters and electric wheel chairs. Please check your instruction manuals before visiting. For visitors unable to use their mobility scooters or electric wheelchairs on steep slopes, we do have limited accessible parking available near our hospital and seal pools. Please see further information on accessible parking below. Vehicle Assistance For visitors that may need mobility assistance due to the site’s steep gradients, we have a golf buggy that operates on a seasonal basis that can take up to 4 passengers or 2 passengers plus a wheelchair or mobility scooter. On some days, the golf buggy may be unavailable and so our on-site van is able to take up to 4 passengers. For days that neither our golf buggy or on-site van is available, or for visitors unable to use these for any reason, we do have limited accessible parking available near our hospital and seal pools. Please speak to a member of our team on arrival if you require this assistance. Accessible Parking Our main accessible parking area is immediately in front of our main reception or we do have a limited number of spaces to park by the seal pools which is then on a relatively flat surface, giving you access to all of our residents and beaver enclosure. Accessible Toilets Our accessible toilets and baby changing facilities are located in our front reception, and on the left hand side of our Seal Hospital. Our baby changing facilities include changing units with a weight limit of 50lbs. Unfortunately there are no accessible toilet facilities once down the hill by our seals pools due to the estuary location. Free Carer Policy One carer goes free for every paying disabled guest. Please note the exception of under 3 year old's who already are entitled to free entry to The Cornish Seal Sanctuary. Free entry for a carer will be valid against both walk up and online purchased tickets. Please ensure that you bring documentation with you on the day such as your blue badge, DLA Letter or note from a doctor or specialist. We can make allowances for disabled visitors who need more than 1 carer in exceptional circumstances. Please contact the Sanctuary directly to confirm your visit and additional carers before your visit.
