Have-A-Go Sessions!

Make your own pot or clay model in the inspirational setting of Bernard Leach’s pottery.

Leach Pottery workshops & courses are cancelled until at least 22 May, with new dates to be confirmed subject to the current COVID-19 situation. Please check the Leach Pottery website and join the Pottery’s mailing list for updates.

Have you ever wanted to get hands-on with clay, well this is your chance to get stuck in with our Have-A-Go activities at the Leach Pottery. Held throughout the year, these sessions will give you the opportunity to make your own pot or clay model in the inspirational setting of Bernard Leach’s pottery.

You are welcome to take your work home (paper bags will be provided to help carry them). Some Have-A-Go activities are always available when we are open, others are held on specific dates, so please check below for further information.

Have-A-Go Hand-Building: Self-Guided

There are always clay, tools and the opportunity to make small hand-built models or pinch pots in our Activity Space in the Old Pottery (subject to Museum admission).

Where: Old Pottery Activity Space
When: 10am-4/5pm (see Museum opening times)
Cost: FREE with Museum admission.

Have-A-Go Hand-Building: Supported

Have a go at making your own pinch pot at our drop-in sessions every Thursday. One of our experienced volunteers will show you pinching techniques and the art of burnishing, a technique used instead of glazing.

Where: Old Pottery Activity Space
When: every Thursday (10:30-12:30)
Cost: FREE with Museum admission.

Have-A-Go Throwing: Supported

Come along to our supported throwing sessions on the old Leach kick wheels. These sessions begin with a 15 minute demonstration by an experienced practitioner followed by a 15 minute throwing experience for up to 4 people at a time. Minimum height (140cm).

Where: Old Pottery Wheel Room (part of Museum)
When: Thursday mornings during school holidays (see below)
Places: 8 per session
Cost: £15 for 30 minute session (with free Museum admission).
