About this event
As part of Heritage Open Days, Michell’s Engine House at National Trust East Pool Mine is offering free entry.
Visit Michell’s, home to the last whim engine built in Cornwall and experience a sound installation designed by Kath Buckler. Her piece, an artistic interpretation of an engine in action, was written for bells, strings and pianos and composed using structural and engineering data from Michell’s engine itself. The work aims to musically convey dimension, form and presence in an otherwise silent space. Each instrument in the piece is heard through separate speakers on different levels, representing different parts of the engine.
Booking is not needed. Entry is free for Michell’s, but normal admission charges apply for the main East Pool Mine site.
Parking is free at Morrison’s carpark on Agar Rd. Michell’s Engine House is approximately a six minute walk from the carpark, away from the main East Pool Mine site.
