About this event
Chris Moore explores the remarkable life of the man described by David Attenborough as the patron saint of conservation and whose story is told in Chris’s book, _Peter Scott and the Birth of Modern Conservation. Chris was actively involved in the team that lovingly converted and catalogued Sir Peter’s former home in Slimbridge to create the Scott House Museum, which opened in 2019. With global warming threatening the mass extinction of wildlife, Sir Peter’s story is a vivid reminder of these challenges and what we stand to lose.
Following a career in cartography and publishing, Chris Moore joined the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in 2014 as a volunteer at their headquarters in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire. In 2017, he joined the team which worked for two years to convert Sir Peter Scott’s former home into a museum, during which time the contents of the house were catalogued, cleaned and, where necessary, conserved. Since the Scott House Museum opened in 2019 he has been one of a team of volunteers leading groups of visitors through the house and relating the story of Sir Peter Scott’s life and work. His book, “Peter Scott and the Birth of Modern Conservation” was published in 2022.
