About this event
In this two-hour session at The Art Room, you’ll explore Shibori — a traditional Japanese method of folding, binding and shaping cloth before dyeing to create pattern and variation. We’ll work with natural dyes made from onion skins and turmeric, learning how fabric preparation and technique influence the final result.
While the dye pots are heating, we’ll practise a few straightforward embroidery stitches that can be used to add subtle detail to your finished pieces.
We’ll be working with 100% preloved cotton fabric, pre-treated with soya to help the natural dyes bond effectively. The focus is on considered making, using accessible materials and traditional processes.
No experience is necessary. All materials are provided.
